Honor and Outstanding Students<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0(<strong><em>URP-HOS<\/em><\/strong>) was originally created to respond to the objectives of the\u00a0<strong>HSI-STEM Grant P031C160141<\/strong>\u00a0(SAFRA II), Strategy 3 (<em>Increase Retention, Success and Degree Completion<\/em>) of the\u00a0<strong>College of Engineering and Geomatic Sciences<\/strong>. Its purpose was to provide an enriched undergraduate academic experience to high-achieving students preparing them as Career Leaders in their area of expertise. Then, the development of this program continued with the support of the <strong>HSI-STEM Grant P031C210139<\/strong> (SAFRA III).<\/p><p>Each cycle of the program lasts for one academic year (3 trimesters): FALL, WINTER and SPRING.<\/p><ul><li>In the first quarter (FALL), students receive a series of compulsory research methodology and related workshops coordinated by the URP-HS Committee, define their research problems, write the first draft of their proposal, and are assigned their research mentors. Compulsory status presentations are scheduled.<\/li><li>During the second (WINTER) and third (SPRING) trimesters, students enroll with their mentor in an Undergraduate Research course and implement their research.
