UPPR \u2013 San Juan proposes to improve its academic programs and institutional management, as well as achieve significantly improved fiscal stability, through three complementary initiatives:<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Activity I<\/strong> \u2013 UPPR will develop a BS degree program in biomedical engineering with a pre-medical option. UPPR will also update engineering programs to qualify graduates for work in an emergent industry in aerospace design and testing.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Activity II<\/strong> \u2013 UPPR will provide training to faculty members who will develop and\/or teach portions of the new curricula; renovating laboratories to accommodate new programs; and purchase, install and test equipment needed in the new content areas.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Activity III<\/strong> \u2013 UPPR will develop specialized in-person and online STEM tutoring and make use of learning communities to increase first-year retention of engineering majors. The project will create a summer bridge program to increase math success among entering students.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Polytechnic University of Puerto Rico requests Title V Strengthening Hispanic-Serving Institutions Program funds totaling $2,624,292, with first year funding of $524,911.<\/p><div class=\"toggle\"><div class=\"toggleTitle acco_plus\">Spanish Version<\/div><div class=\"hide_accordian\" style=\"display: none;\"><h1>Proyecto T\u00edtulo V<\/h1><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Con fondos de la Propuesta Federal de T\u00edtulo V, la UPPR-San Juan se propone mejorar sus programas acad\u00e9micos y su gerencia institucional. Adem\u00e1s, pretende mejorar la estabilidad fiscal mediante tres iniciativas:<\/p><p><strong>Actividad I<\/strong> \u2013 Desarrollar\u00e1 un BS en Ingenier\u00eda Biom\u00e9dica con una opci\u00f3n en prem\u00e9dica. UPPR tambi\u00e9n pondr\u00e1 al d\u00eda los programas de ingenier\u00eda de modo que sus graduados puedan trabajar en la industria aeroespacial.<\/p><p><strong>Actividad II<\/strong> \u2013 Proveer\u00e1 adiestramiento a la facultad que ense\u00f1ar\u00e1 en este nuevo curr\u00edculo y renovar\u00e1 los laboratorios para acomodar los nuevos programas y comparar\u00e1 e instalar\u00e1 los equipos en estas nuevas \u00e1reas de contenido.<\/p><p><strong>Actividad III<\/strong> \u2013 Desarrollar\u00e1 tutor\u00edas personales y en l\u00ednea para aumentar la retenci\u00f3n en las \u00e1reas especializadas de ingenier\u00eda.
