This led to the foundation of Polytechnic University of Puerto Rico (PUPR).\u00a0<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><strong>1973<\/strong><\/p><p>PUPR started offering its first bachelor&#8217;s degrees in Civil Engineering and Land Surveying. It was the first institution to offer this type of degree in the Metropolitan Area of Puerto Rico.\u00a0<\/p><p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p><p><strong>1977\u00a0<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p><p>From 1977, the institution started offering classes in the evenings and on Saturdays, opening up the possibility for students to work during the day. This new schedule allowed active professionals to complete their education in a practical and efficient way.\u00a0<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><strong>1980<\/strong><\/p><p>During the 1980s, PUPR also earned its accreditation from the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) for its first academic programs, including Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Business Administration.\u00a0<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><strong>1986<\/strong><\/p><p>PUPR acquired the iconic building known as Cl\u00ednica Juli\u00e1, located at the heart of Hato Rey.\u00a0<\/p><p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p><p><strong>1992<\/strong><\/p><p>The institution was authorized to offer a graduate program for the first time.\u00a0<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><strong>2001<\/strong><\/p><p>At the dawn of the new millennium, the Polytechnic University extended its scope to the city of Miami, offering the same academic excellence to students in the United States.\u00a0<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><strong>2003 <\/strong><\/p><p>PUPR continued growing its presence in the United States with the inauguration of its Orlando Campus;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 second campus in the state of Florida.\u00a0<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><strong>2009<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p><p>The first and only plasma laboratory in Puerto Rico was inaugurated.\u00a0The online master&#8217;s degree program in Management Engineering (MEM) was initiated.\u00a0<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><strong>2013<\/strong><\/p><p>The only aerospace laboratory in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean was inaugurated, featuring MOTUS 622i, a full-motion flight simulator.\u00a0Since 2013, five major schools have shaped the future of thousands of professionals: School of Engineering, Surveying, and Geospatial Science; School of Architecture; School of Management and Entrepreneurship; School of Arts, Sciences, and Education; and the Graduate School.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><strong>2014<\/strong><\/p><p>PUPR created the first laboratory and the doctor of philosophy degree in Engineering and Applied Sciences in Puerto Rico and became the first local university to develop and launch a high-power rocket.\u00a0<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><strong>2015<\/strong><\/p><p>PUPR became the first university in Puerto Rico to develop an electric Formula car to compete in the Formula SAE West event.\u00a0PUPR was reaccredited by the MSCHE.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><strong>2016<\/strong><\/p><p>The first bachelor of science in Biomedical Engineering in Puerto Rico was instituted.\u00a0<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><strong>2021<\/strong><\/p><p>PUPR launched the 100%-online programs for Biomedical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Environmental Engineering, and Computer Science Engineering.\u00a0<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><strong>2022<\/strong><\/p><p>PUPR launched the 100%-online Computer Science program.\u00a0PUPR received an award from the American Concrete Institute (ACI) and is the only higher education institution in Puerto Rico to receive such recognition. PUPR has been awarded this reputable distinction on seven different occasions between 2013 and 2018.\u00a0The School of Management and Entrepreneurship was renamed the School of Business Administration.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><strong>2023<\/strong><\/p><p>PUPR launched the 100%-online Environmental Engineering and Computer Engineering bachelor\u2019s degrees programs.\u00a0The PUPR team earned three awards \u2014in the categories of Finalists, Best Video, and Champions\u2014 at the U.S. Department of Energy AlgaePrize Competition.\u00a0<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><strong>2024 <\/strong><\/p><p>PUPR was reaccredited by the MSCHE and obtained four stars in the QS Stars rating. The Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering offering was initiated. The aerospace laboratory in the Orlando Campus was inaugurated. The School of Engineering, Surveying, and Geospatial Science was renamed the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences in the same year as its 50<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary.<\/p><p><strong>2025<\/strong><\/p><p>The MakerSpace Laboratory was inaugurated. The Master of Landscape Architecture was reaccredited by the Landscape Architectural Accreditation Board (LAAB). The School of Architecture and the Library celebrated its 30<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary. The Miami Campus was consolidated with the Orlando Campus.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><strong>2026<\/strong><\/p><p>The ABET commissions (EAC, CAC, and ANSAC) reaccredited the 10 engineering and applied sciences programs. The objective of this program is to: a) &#8220;improve&#8221; the performance of all academic programs and administrative offices; b) &#8220;prove&#8221; by providing evidence that the expected outcomes have been achieved, and c) &#8220;inform&#8221; or disclose the gathered data to guide the decision-making process institution-wide.<\/p><p>The assessment to &#8220;improve&#8221; is a short-term cycle driven by faculty members or key stakeholders. The development stage starts with the design and planning of courses, course components, and curricula or project\/program. During this stage, several improvements should be incorporated while the program or project is implemented. This formative mode of assessment leads to continuous improvement.<\/p><p>In contrast to the assessment to &#8220;improve,&#8221; the assessment to &#8220;prove&#8221; is a long-term cycle. The development stage requires statistical data and final results from models already implemented. The analysis of the data will generate inferences and implications. This summative assessment will provide evidence of the project.<\/p><p>Following the assessment to &#8220;prove&#8221; the program&#8217;s effectiveness, it should identify key stakeholders. Data collection and analysis are used to guide the decision-making process, increasing the likelihood of information dissemination and the institutionalization of changes resulting from the assessment of outcomes.<\/p><p>The assessment of an academic program will be based on the accreditation criteria issued by the corresponding agencies and the institutional mission and academic objectives. The Office of Outcomes Assessment understands that assessment to &#8220;improve,&#8221; assessment to &#8220;prove,&#8221; and information disclosure are fundamental stages for the development of an effective outcomes assessment program. The teaching and learning outcomes assessment process impacts directly upon the mission, vision, and goals of the institution.
