The Microcredential in Mobile Networks and Wireless Communications provides comprehensive training in key areas through a sequence of four undergraduate courses, enabling students to develop knowledge and practical skills in signal analysis, data transmission, wireless communication principles, cellular network technologies, and communication system design. These technologies have become the backbone of modern digital connectivity, powering everything from today’s smartphones to global satellite networks.

Students will prepare to pursue in-demand technical careers, design next-generation connectivity infrastructure, and solve complex digital security challenges. As industries globally transition into automated, data-driven environments, mastering these concepts opens doors across multiple professional paths.

The curricular sequence for the Microcredential in Mobile Networks and Wireless Communications is the following:

• EE 3002 (3 credits) – Signal & Systems
• CECS 3302 (3 credits) – Data Communications
• EE 3702 (3 credits) – Fundamentals of Wireless Communications & Cellular Networks
• EE 4742 (3 credits) – Advanced Mobile Networks and Technologies

The program will rely on both Polytechnic University of Puerto Rico faculty and adjunct faculty, who are knowledgeable in Mobile Networks and Wireless Communications. These are:

• Dr. Luis M. Vicente
• Julio Hernández
• Dr. Marvi Teixeira
• Dr. Viktor Zaharov

The rapid growth in Mobile Networks and Wireless Communications career opportunities directly reflects increased employment in telecommunications and wireless engineering, as reported by the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).

As the need to deploy, optimize, and defend wireless infrastructure grows, mobile and cellular communications have become a rapidly expanding field with a staggering number of opportunities for both consultants and corporate employees.

The demand is growing in:

• Local, state, and federal agencies: Including the military, homeland security sectors, and telecommunications regulatory bodies (such as the FCC).
• Data and Over-the-Air (OTA) Protection: Securing mobile network traffic, encrypting wireless signals, and protecting personal, financial, and proprietary data from airwave interception.
• Network Resilience: Helping ensure that cellular systems, enterprise Wi-Fi networks, and critical wireless infrastructures remain highly available and secure for authorized users.
