Let’s Embrace Artificial Intelligence, Without Fear!

In recent decades, we have witnessed rapid technological evolution, from the rise of mobile devices to the use of microchips in various aspects of daily life. Yet, no advancement has sparked such a wide range of emotions and opinions as the resurgence of artificial intelligence (AI)—from fear and frustration to gratitude and eagerness to apply it across different areas of our lives. Although many believe that AI emerged in the last three years, the reality is that it has been developing over the past five or six decades, as humans entrusted machines and later computers with the execution of certain tasks.

This article does not aim to explain how AI is developed, programmed, or generated. Instead, it seeks to foster a dialogue that encourages the integration of AI into our professional and personal lives. To achieve this, it is enough to have a general understanding that AI refers to systems and devices in computing that, through learning, reasoning, and adaptation, can perform tasks that would otherwise require human effort.

Imagine in 2024, getting lost in a city, unfolding a large paper map to figure out where you are and how to reach your destination. Hard to imagine, right? And completely unnecessary, thanks to AI. It not only pinpoints your exact location in real-time while driving but also detects the fastest, shortest routes, with or without tolls. This is just one everyday example of how AI has already improved our daily lives.

Now it’s time to embrace and integrate AI in our professional fields as an ally to support our duties and responsibilities. How often have we felt that we don’t have enough time to complete all our tasks, or that administrative processes consume time that could be spent with students, clients, or users? Let’s capitalize on the many tools available, many of them free—to enhance our professional performance, regardless of the field.

In education, for instance, AI-powered platforms and programs can automate data management and user support, tasks that are currently performed manually. This allows administrative staff to focus on decision-making and leading innovative projects. In teaching, AI tools can be used to develop soft skills such as communication, negotiation, critical thinking, and teamwork. These activities can build on the students’ work, even if that work was created using AI.

The path to AI integration in our professional activities is already clear: Be curious → Learn what it’s about → Get trained → Test → Apply.

Let’s embrace artificial intelligence, without fear!
