Internships/Co-ops with Industry Partners

Establish a dedicated team or appoint a coordinator to engage T&L industry partners, including transportation companies, port operators, warehouse management teams, operations and supply chain managers, to develop meaningful internship and co-op opportunities. Formalize agreements with industry stakeholders to ensure clear role definitions and market openings to relevant student groups. Additionally, explore and offer other avenues for industry collaboration to increase awareness about T&L topics, careers and opportunities (e.g., company visits, port tours, speaker sessions, mentoring, etc.).

Apprenticeships

Partner with industry employers to create registered apprenticeships that blend classroom learning with on-the-job training (“OJT”). Leverage WIOA Apprenticeship funding to subsidize training costs and attract employers. Work closely with the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (“WIOA”) coordinators to streamline funding applications. Ensure apprenticeships are
structured to provide industry-relevant technical skills and commit to retaining apprentices post-completion.

High-demand Certifications

Conduct regular industry consultations to identify critical certifications such as OSHA, technical machinery operation, new IT applications or warehousing operations that employers deem most valuable. Collaborate with certification bodies to integrate these credentials into existing academic programs or offer them as standalone certification courses. Ensure these certifications align with
industry standards to enhance the employability of graduates. Maintain a database of certification requirements and regularly update course content to reflect any changes in industry demand.

Tailored Upskilling Programs for Companies

Work directly with industry stakeholders to identify areas for upskilling in the current workforce. Design targeted upskilling programs in areas such as materials handling, warehouse operations, supply chain optimization, IoT applications, process automation, and project management. Tailor
these programs to the needs of individual companies and offer them through flexible delivery modes such as workshops, short courses, or executive training programs. Establish feedback mechanisms to continually adapt and improve program offerings based on real-time industry input.
