President’s Message

Hello, and welcome to Polytechnic University of Puerto Rico (PUPR).

PUPR exists to serve people. Our constituents – prospective students, current students, professors, staff members, graduates, parents, neighbors, accrediting agencies, and many others – all contribute to the quality of service we provide to society. Together, you help us to help others. Thank you for your support.

 PUPR continues to rise in its history of academic success. In its persistent effort to provide opportunities for individuals from diverse backgrounds to achieve their educational and professional goals, and in addition to full institutional accreditation by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE), PUPR has reached a historic milestone.

During the most recent ABET accreditation cycle, the University achieved accreditations for all 10 programs within the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, making PUPR the private and Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) in the United States with the largest number of ABET-accredited programs. This distinction reflects our unwavering commitment to academic excellence and the preparation of highly qualified professionals in engineering and applied sciences.

Currently, PUPR’s College of Engineering and Applied Sciences has the most programs accredited by ABET accreditation commissions in the Caribbean, as follows: eight programs accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission, one by the Applied and Natural Sciences Accreditation Commission, and one by  the Computing Accreditation Commission.

PUPR was recently designated by the National Security Agency (NSA) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education (CAE/IAE) for the years 2009-14. This center is one of 100 in the nation – USA 50 states and its territories. It indeed, speaks very well of our Computer Science and Computer Engineering programs at the undergraduate and the graduate levels.

Additionally, our School of Architecture has a Bachelor in Architecture accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB) and a Master of Landscape Architecture accredited by the Landscape Architectural Accreditation Board (LAAB). The investment in time and resources of every kind required for these achievements is worthwhile. Our aim has always been to attract students, from diverse socio cultural backgrounds, to cultivate their potential for leadership, productivity and competitiveness while demonstrating that the programs meet the accreditation criteria required by these national accrediting agencies. Our students will acquire greater social responsibility toward their communities through exposure to intellectual, humanistic and technological advancement. To accomplish this goal PUPR employs multiple methods of delivery to educate them.

As a Hispanic-serving Institution, PUPR envisions meeting societal and industrial standards in general without loosing our global perspective. This is always performed in association with public and private enterprises. We emphasize that our academic environment should be characterized by an emphatic relationship between faculty members and the students in context with a client oriented quality service culture, empowerment and teamwork.
