Overview
The Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering program is intended to prepare students to apply engineering fundamentals and principles to challenges in the medical industry, medical processes, and healthcare management associated with this engineering field. The program is interdisciplinary in two ways.
First, it permits professionals with different engineering backgrounds to pursue a graduate degree in Biomedical Engineering. Second, students can choose from an array of areas of study across various disciplines, such as biological systems, healthcare management, and regulatory affairs, to complete the master’s program.
The Master’s Program in Biomedical Engineering offers the opportunity to pursue courses related to the Biomedical Industry Manufacturing or Processes sectors and in Healthcare Systems to serve a wide range of companies or service organizations.
The graduate from this program will qualify for managerial, supervisory, technical, or Research and Development (R&D) positions. The graduate could pursue these positions in manufacturing, research, or service organizations within high-technology operational facilities or private or public sector service functions.
Students may select from three areas of emphasis:
Biomedical Industry Manufacturing
This area corresponds to the competencies of the biomedical engineer who is going to work in an industrial facility for the manufacture of medical and pharmaceutical equipment, knowing production, logistics, operations, and planning.
Biomedical Industry Processes
Industrial Management deals with the application of science and engineering principles to improve the industrial infrastructure and industrial processes, including in the biomedical industry.
Healthcare Systems
This area corresponds to the biomedical engineer who will perform hospital technology management and resource management in a health system, where it is required to know organizations, their dynamics, and the regulations that govern them.
